Please refer to the trailing email regarding the status of the Captain of MV SKYLIGHT, which came under attack in Oman during the Gulf conflict.
There were ten Indian crew members on board the vessel when it was struck by a drone and subsequently caught fire. Eight crew members were successfully rescued by the Omani authorities.

Unfortunately, two crew members — Mr. Ashish Kumar and Mr. Dalip — were in the engine room at the time of the incident and got engulfed in the resultant fire. We have requested the Omani authorities to extricate the remains; however, due to the intense fire and hazardous conditions surrounding the vessel, they have not been successful so far.

A search operation was undertaken again today by the Omani authorities in coordination with other crew members. Regrettably, no trace has been found since everything has burnt down. In the absence of any physical evidence, their official status remains “missing,” though the likelihood of a positive outcome of further search attempts appears dim in view of ferocity of the fire on board.

Nevertheless, we have formally written to Omani authorities to continue search efforts. The Embassy remains in close contact with the family members and is extending all possible assistance. The Embassy will continue to follow up on the matter.

The Omani Coast Guard launched a search again today. They have found a
skull and a few bones in burnt condition from the room of Captain. As
nobody enters Captain's room, the remains most likely belong to Capt
Ashish Kumar. The Embassy is in contact with Omani authorities and following up on the matter closely.
In your mail dated 3rd March, you have mentioned that Mr. Ashish Kumar and Mr. Dalip both were in the engine room. Have the local authorities found anything in the engine room ?
In your Mail dated 4th march, You have mentioned that skull found in captain room, was the captain room also caught fire ? What is the evidence to support both the statements?
Please investigate the matter further to overcome these Contradictory Statements.
Please also mention the further step to verify that the skull belongs to Mr Ashish Kumar or not.

It is understood that Mr. Ashish Kumar was in his cabin at the time of the incident, as the cabin has been completely burnt out. The results of the police investigation will be shared as and when they are received.
